Lap steel guitars are one of those instruments that sounds so close to the human voice it tugs at the heartstrings. In combination with the lap steel slide and volume pedal it almost sounds as if it is crying.A lap steel guitar is almost always laid across your lap, instead of being held vertically like a typical six or 12 string guitar. The strings of a lap steel are considerably higher off the fretboard so you can lightly press a steel bar on it, which gives the sweet slide sound lap steel guitars are known for.
